Romare Bearden

This fine watercolor will be sold in new york on October 6th.

Watercolor, pen, pencil and collage

Bearden was born in North Carolina USA in 1911.
Bearden started to experiment with forms of collage in the 60ties. He used clippings from magazines, which in and of itself was a new medium as glossy magazines were fairly new.

Together with others, he founded the artists' group "Spiral", which tried to define an Afro-American artistic identity. The artist's interest in jazz and folk music is reflected in many of his works.
