I saw this beautiful photograph of a work of Anton Pieck in a bookshop in Antwerp, a few days ago. It remembered me the work of this great Dutch artist. The Netherlands is the country with worlds fastest ice skaters. Gold for Sven Kramer in Vancouver 2010 on the 5000-meter men's speedskating…, and the best on the tenK!

Anton Pieck was born in Den Helder on April 19th, 1895 and died in Overveen on November 24th, 1987.
At the early age of 11, he won his first prize for an oil painting of a still life. At the age of 17, he obtains his secondary school drawing certificate. From 1920 until his retirement in 1960, Pieck was a drawing-art-master attached to the Kennemer Lyceum in Bloemendaal.

From 1920 to 1960, he is best known for his fairytale-like drawings, which appeared on birthcards and calendars. From 1952 to 1974, Pieck was responsible for designing almost anything for fairytale park Efteling in Kaatsheuvel, which has become one of the most important theme parks in Europe.
